Decks

DJ Decks are the basis for entire art of DJing. Whether you use CD Decks (CDJs),  classic DJ Turntables or a DJ controller, you'll need a set of decks to be able to mix!

The whole origination of DJing comes from the art of mixing music for a continuous sound, fading from one deck to the other. Originally, the artform was based our the vinyl record and the turntable. Turntables evolved from just playing a 12" or 7" record at a constant speed, into models which allowed varying speeds so DJs can mix tracks of different tempos, seamlessly. Naturally, as vinyl records became replaced by CD, the CD deck was born and likewise the DJ controller with the evolution of the MP3 music file format.

As the DJ turntable evolved into the CD Deck, new creative and functional features came along, such as massively wide pitch ranges. Key lock was born (the ability to speed up or slow down a deck without affecting the pitch!). As CD decks became the norm, the ability to 'scratch' with CD decks became standard, along with loop features, hot-cues and samples.

But because the fundamentals of DJing remained the same, the new technologies got reverse engineered - for example, the modern DJ turntable can do the same as the CD Deck with variable pitch ranges, key lock. Some also have built-in USB and digital connections for use with computer recording equipment!

Nowadays, with the use of DJ software and DVS, there's not much you can do on a DJ controller that wouldn't be able to do on a CD Deck or DJ turntable!
