The mixer gives the DJ the ability to mix records and music from one track to another, whilst also applying EQ, effects and controlling the sound in your headphones, DJ booth and PA Speakers. Located usually next to the upfaders, all DJ mixers will have a crossfader, which is both for smooth blending between tracks and quick cuts for scratch techniques and beat juggling. As standard DJ mixers will usually come equipped with a 3-band eq, with some other professional mixers having 4-band and some beginner or budget mixers having a 2-band EQ.
Many mixers will have built in DJ effects suitable for altering the music, live remixing, rearranging and for transitions for one track to the next. Poplar DJ FX include filter, flanger, phaser and many different variations on delay and reverb. More recent DJ mixers for example the Pioneer DJM 900 Nexus have dedicated effects suitable for breakdowns and build-ups, for example Spiral which combines delay, distortion and pitch shifting to radically change the music.
Equipped for all kinds of DJs mixers will have built in phono preamps for use with turntables as well as line inputs for CD decks and other digital devices. Many modern DJ mixers have built-in audio interfaces which mean that DJs can send individual tracks from DJ software to the mixer and then make use of the built-in EQ and effects to alter the music from their laptop or computer further.
DJ Tech Direct are stockists of Pioneer DJ mixers which are are often regarded as the industry standard brand, installed at nightclubs including Amnesia and Ministry of Sound. We also stock other popular brands including Numark and Vestax.
