Japan’s Roland has been at the forefront of manufacturing electronic music products since the 1970s.
The brand is renowned for its firsts. The SH-1000 synthesiser from 1973 was the first commercial analogue monophonic synthesiser in Japan, while the following year saw the world’s first ever touch sensitive electric piano, the EP-30.
1980 saw the debut of the TR-808 rhythm composer, a now iconic analogue drum machine whose sounds are now embedded in countless pop songs, thanks to that kick-drum sound, from Marvin Gaye to Kanye.
From the Space Echo to Jazz Chorus, the history of Roland has run parallel to the history of the electronic music. Embrace Roland’s rich history and exciting future online at DJ Tech Direct.
