The Pioneer RMX-500 is an exceptionally intuitive effects accessory. It works alongside your Pioneer DJ set up perfectly but is also compatible with any send/return enabled mixer. This a great addition to mixers that don't have onboard FX already. Its lightweight build and intelligent design make it a great tool to have on the road. With a lot of the features of the 'club standard' RMX-1000, the 500 brings a lot to the table without breaking the bank. To grab one for yourself, head over

Pioneer RMX-500: Make a DJ Set Your Own!
The face of the
effects unit is cleverly organised with rhythm fx on the left panel, and scene fx on the right. You can find the pre-loaded drum samples on the rhythm section, which quantise with the music playing through the mixer.
Rhythm FX
For adding your own creative stamp on records in real-time, this section of the 500 is great. This area is where the samples live. The five audio fx also assist with live manipulation of the audio, creating rolling percussion and delayed vocals. The large pressure-sensitive control in the centre allows you to adjust the depth, amongst other parameters.
Scene FX
Similar to the colour FX found on DJM mixers, the Scene FX is for build-ups, breakdowns and customised fx on the fly. This area is split into two parts, 'Build Up' and 'Breakdown'.
Customisable
If you have a personal preference with regards to FX settings (backspin length etc) then you can easily save these straight into the memory. This a useful tool for saving the customised drum samples and sound fx that you create and don't want to lose!
Connections
The RMX-500 has a standard RCA input/output connection to run in parallel with the audio signal path. You can do this easily using the send/return functions on your mixer. You can also use the USB connection in the studio to work alongside RMX-500 VST/AU/RTAS digital plug-ins. If you do not have a send/return feature on your setup, never fear! You can still use this unit on the master output of an analogue signal by connecting it in-line (between the source and speakers/amp).
Effective
If your mixer does not have any onboard FX, or you want to broaden your creative horizons, this is for you. It is incredibly fun to use and a real asset to any live DJ scenario. Because of this, DJs across the globe make sure they have one in their kit bag. To join these guys and get one for your very own, head over to
